John A. MacDonald Intentionally Starved Indigenous Communities

“Father of Confederation” John A. Macdonald pursued a policy of forced starvation where food shipments were withheld from First Nations and Metis communities until they moved onto reserves.

This was done in order to make room for expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railroad and white settlements.

This was a genocidal policy and the Canadian government deliberately killed thousands; Canada’s first Prime Minister once boasted that the Indigenous population was deliberately kept on the “verge of actual starvation”.

Canada’s westward expansion was only possible through the forced displacement of indigenous peoples and the military occupation of their lands. The expansion of the railroad was one of the reasons for Confederation, and it opened up the West for colonization: this deliberate and calculated genocide is built into the very foundation of Canada.

Just another reason to say: Fuck the 150th!
